This is why we cannot have nice things, Dragon*Con Edition
So. I'm in Georgia right now. It's pretty nice.
Yesterday afternoon was Torchwood Panel #1, which was Gareth and Anthony Lewis (Tommy Brockless, "To The Last Man"). Mostly Gareth, if we're honest, but Anthony seemed to take it patiently and was chatty and funny and stuff when people asked him things, and there was a bit of banter between him and Gareth.
Highlights (in no particular order):
- A bit on S3: "slightly extended" episodes, five in total, action-y, and with lots of Ianto background. As for Freema, "her influence will be felt." Hm.
- "GDL is Barrowman's bitch" -- he's having sciatic nerve issues, apparently, and arrived with an "arse twinge." Yeah, the fandom isn't having a field day with that or anything. *snerk*
- Amazement at someone's Tommy Brockless bear. "Tommy can squeeze his own bloody bear, thankyouverymuch." - GDL (Was funny. Maybe you needed to be there.)
- The Welsh apparently created Red Bull and Vodka. Out of boredom. In the Valleys. Or possibly Gareth did. Hm. (This one, if I drink it all night, makes me tired and I pass out. This one if I drink it, keeps me energetic and up all night...)
- Someone knitted (? It looked knitted, not crochet.) GDL a really nice beanie (which he's been wearing here and there), and he was stunned to discover that she'd spun the yarn herself.
- I made good on my oath to get him to say "punch fucking." I hope you're all happy now. In response, he also said "felching." Win, Y/Y?
- Apparently Torchwood fans and SW&A saved The Point. Yay!
- Unlike us, the British have a sense of humo(u)r.
- Pie status: Guh. Pretty.
- Trouser status: Low, past hips. Boxers. Hm.
Really, the man knows how to play a crowd. Lots of fun, and I think he's either gone to the Barrowman school of public speaking, or he's just as bad.
Panel #2 was this morning. Got in line early, early, early (9 AM for an 11:30 AM panel, and we were not the head of the line. Knitted with
resourceress and some strangers, chewed gum, chatted. Saw a "Something Borrowed" group do some photo fun.
This one had Marsters in, and was delightful in that the moderator was like, 'let's keep this kid friendly' to the crowd, but then GDL, Marsters, and Lewis kind of took it post-watershed because, uh...well, see also Gareth and the John Barrowman School of Public Speaking.
Highlights (again, in no particular order):
- S3 will not be kiddie friendly. It's Torchwood, damn it. Blood and porn, people. Blood and porn.
- While James Marsters is NOT a porn star (screen kissing/sex scenes are awkward and embarrassing), GDL apparently is. *snerk*
- Trouser status: still low. Boxers.
- Anthony Lewis status: fucking awesome, good humored, not as popular.
- "It's 9 o'clock! Cocktail hour! Don't wanna work no more! 9 in the morning, that is." - GDL
- The outtake from "Meat" where Jack puts Ianto's hand on his junk was apparently JB's idea, but Gareth got shit about it from the director because it was 'a bit camp'. Also, feeding Jack pizza? Another one of John's ideas. Bad John. Naughty John. *prays for spanking outtake in S3*
- "Let's talk about John's ideas, shall we?" - GDL (re: the above)
- "She's all yours, brother! I've loosened her up!" - GDL (re: the guy who played Adam being in bed with Naoko before Anthony Lewis since they filmed those scenes at the same shoot.)
- "You can't beat a good fuck." - Anthony Lewis
- Re: the scene in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" when Ianto appears to consider Captain John's offer of an orgy (in the autopsy bay), that was improvised but in character because "[Ianto]'s a pervert, so why not?" (My muse is really pleased by this revelation. Oh dear.)
- GDL likes Brecht. *quietly [hearts] GDL*
- "I get burned by coffee and James gets scars from fighting." - GDL
- "So, Anthony, did you get any injuries in bed with Naoko?" - GDL
- Lots of wonderful Marsters gushing about how fabulous JB is in the kindness/usefulness/professionalism category. Apparently he's made of win. That makes me happy on a purely vicarious level.
Also, got S2-style mugs signed today. Happy. Yay.
But yeah, if y'all are here, drop me a line. I missed out on the meet-up mostly because I got lost on the highway system/missed a turn-off on Thursday night, but am willing to further disgrace myself among, uh...well, just in general, really.
